Other Stuff I Am Thankful For

I am thankful for my adorable husband, for incredible sacrificing loving friends, for healthy lively imaginitive children. Really, I am! But sometimes realizing how thankful I am for the OTHER stuff, does a lot for my morale. My MacBook computer. Aaaah. Technology that doesn't make me angry. The fact I live surrounded by green things, mountains and a river. I spent one too many days on the Navajo Reservation this year. My lips cry out for chapstick just thinking about it. To be fair, the Navajo I stayed with was quite thrilled NOT to be living where I do. So we are even. Good storytellers! Long live Joss Whedon (Firefly), Mo Willems (Knuffle Bunny), Jan Martel (Life of Pi), Miller and Gough of Spiderman and Smallville fame, Dav Pilkey (Captain Underpants) and of course those awesome friends I write with everyday. Shakespeare's okay, too--but "live long" didn't really apply. The fact I am truly spoiled and have the time to write my own stories. Chocolate in all it...

Pumpkins Vs. Vampires

"I don't think I'll dress up for Halloween this year," I told my friend. She looked at me trying to figure out if this was a joke or not. Deciding I was serious, she said, "Isn't that a little like Santa not coming for Christmas?" I wanted to deny it, and not just because my 8-month's pregnant figure is a little too close to Santa's shape for my comfort. However, as I surveyed my closet the next day, I realized that I do havee more costumes in there than clothes that actually fit me at the moment. Halloween came and I still didn't know what to be. Pregnant pirates=not cool. Pregnant Captain Janeway=too disturbing. Pregnant witches=hah! like I could squeeze myself into that little bodice right now. So I just wore an orange t-shirt with an open white button-up shirt on top and at least felt my color scheme matched the season. The first trick-or-treaters came accompanied by their mothers--women I know from the neighborhood. "Look! Ginger di...

Why Forks Are Better Than Men--By Request

I am not a man hater, I swear. I am happily married and have boys of my own and love them dearly. Please don't hold me responsible for lists my fictional characters create (or that I may, or may not, have created in the past with 5 other college roommates). Why Forks Are Better Than Men They only touch your lips when you want them to. They don't care what you look like. You don't care if your roommate uses the same one the next day. They don't whine or try to manipulate you. They don't get mad if you use more than one. They are good listeners. They are always dressed appropriately for the occasion. They do whatever you want and don't expect a kiss in return. What you see is what you get. They don't lie (except for in the drawer). They are so easy to pick up. You can grind them in the garbage disposal and they don't scream. When you see one, you know exactly what to do with it.
